UK: New fear over drug forums
Lancashire Evening Post Monday 23 Apr 2012 But a host of other pages relating to drug deals in central and north Lancashire are still present on the same site. The forums, which the Evening Post has decided not to name, featured a string of threads offering drugs for sale in Preston. Others featured people looking to buy drugs including amphetamine and various types of cannabis. But the pages have now been pulled after concerns were raised to police by the LEP. However, similar forums for Lancaster and Chorley are still present. Most refer to deals involving prescription drugs such as valium. While these drugs are not strictly illegal they are usually only prescribed by doctors and can be dangerous if misused. Today, community leaders urged police to take action, branding the pages "very worrying" and said people could be harmed if they buy fake drugs from "dodgy”"sources. One post, on the Lancaster page, states: "Looking meet ftf (face-to-face) to buy valium today, in desperate need, got a supply of someone on here which was all fakes. Let me know if anybody can meet up in Lancaster area." It adds: "I have been a member on here for years...I am no 5-0 (slang for police)." Coun Peter Goldsworthy, leader of Chorley Council, said: "I think it is a big concern that people should want to use drugs without a prescription. "If you are going to buy drugs from a dodgy seller you have not got the faintest idea what is in them." Lancaster Council leader Coun Eileen Blamire said: "It is good that the paper has discovered this and the police need to pay attention to it." http://www.lep.co.uk/news/local/new-fear-over-drug-forums-1-4474898
