The police recovered 229 kg of banned cannabis (ganja) at a village in Palwal, about 40 kilometres from Faridabad on Monday. The smugglers, a father-son duo, are absconding. Police teams have been sent to different parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to nab them. Sunder and his father Dayaram are residents of Jaindpura in Palwal.

The seizure came after the police received information a few days ago that the father-son duo had concealed huge quantity of cannabis under the ground.

"We started looking for them. But we were told they had fled to some other place," police officials said, adding, "when our sources informed us on Monday that both the father and son had returned home, we immediately mobilized our forces".

"When we reached their house, they again fled," SHO Palwal city Balbir Singh said.

The consignment was recovered in three drums kept in an underground tank under the cowshed. "We starting digging and we found an underground tank and inside the tank we recovered three drums full of ganja".

The police believe the ganja has been smuggled in from Uttar Pradesh. A case has been registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act (NDPS Act).

"All efforts are being made to arrest the smugglers but till now their whereabouts are unknown," a police officer said.
