Largest Global Marijuana March to end prohibition this Saturday!
Canada Newswire Thursday 03 May 2012 The march will launch at HIGH NOON, taking off in the heart of downtown Toronto with an extended route down the world's longest street, Yonge Street. The peaceful protest parade is presented by www.Cannabis.ca and will assemble at 11am and launch at 12pm at a new location north of Queen's Park North south of CHARLES STREET and will travel NORTH to BLOOR STREET, EAST to YONGE STREET, SOUTH on YONGE to GERRARD STREET and EAST on GERRARD to CHURCH STREET. After the march the crowd will disperse to several Cannabis-friendly events across the city. Note that the march has been moved up from its previously advertised 2pm launch. Organizers need your help to stay #1! Contact help@globalmarijuanamarch.com to be a parade marshal or volunteer staff. The Toronto Freedom Festival (www.torontofreedomfestival.com) has been postponed and organizers are disappointed that the City of Toronto would not give a permit for the familiar festival infrastructures, such as city sanctioned exhibitors, food vendors, entertainment stages, or washrooms inside Queen's Park North. This decision by the Parks, Forestry and City officials has both the Toronto community and marijuana supporters like 'The Herb' scratching their heads, especially since the GMM is Toronto's largest spring outdoor gathering generating millions of dollars to the local economy. Other GMM unaffiliated groups have threatened to protest and occupy City parks and tourist attractions but GMM Organizer 'The Herb' states, "It remains our shared objective of GMM organizers and the City to have a safe, clean and peaceful GMM protest parade with participants respecting the neighbors and Toronto Police Services. This will be an evolutionary year for GMM and we are proud to be marching with the NORML Women's alliance and several political parties. Our main goals are to bring back the Toronto Freedom Festival this year and to strike down the recent Harper laws implementing mandatory minimum sentences for marijuana offences. It's time for people to exercise their Freedom to Choose' in Canada." Image with caption: "Last year's parade gathered more than 30000 attendees. (CNW Group/Global Marijuana March)".
