UK: Cannabis grower warned

Plymouth Herald

Monday 07 May 2012

A MAN found for the second time growing cannabis at his home has been warned he will be jailed if caught again.

Peter Levers, aged 28, was found to have 122 grams of cannabis as well as six plants, Plymouth Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Will Rose said police raided Levers' home at Harewood Crescent, Honicknowle, on July 25 last year.

They found the plants in his back garden and two bags of cannabis in the house, together with electronic scales and a Maxi Bright lighting system and lights in a back bedroom storage cupboard.

A Samsung mobile phone contained 28 messages relating to drug-dealing, and two lots of cash were found in the property.

Levers had £1,000 hidden in a teapot and £1,875 in a jacket pocket in his garden shed.

Mr Rose said the total value of the cannabis found was between £460 and £871.

Police accepted that the £1,875 was acquired legitimately and being saved to pay for a headstone, while Levers had disclaimed the £1,000, he said.

Levers had been cautioned for cultivation of seven cannabis plants at his home in 2008.

Jason Beal, for Levers, said he had sold cannabis only to family and friends and had suffered very badly from the death of his mother.

He had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to producing cannabis and possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

Judge Paul Darlow imposed a 12-month community order with £232 costs and ordered Levers to do 270 hours of unpaid community work.

He added: "The warning you had before wasn't enough.

"You've got to know that from here on in the consequences will be much more serious."
