UK: Police seize £50k cannabis plants

Pontefract and Castleford Express

Thursday 10 May 2012

POLICE have seized 300 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £50,000 during a drugs raid in Pontefract today (April 10).

Pontefract and Knottingley neighbourhood policing team (NPT) swooped in on the farm after reports of two men "acting suspiciously" outside a house in Nevison.

Officers found 105 fully grown plants, 126 small plants and 75 cut plants at the property in the early hours of this morning, along with around £7,000 worth of growing equipment.

Sgt Alan Studd of the NPT said it was one of the largest cannabis farms discovered in Pontefract.

He added: "A neighbour rang in because he thought someone was breaking in to the property and two men were acting suspiciously. Officers attended and discovered a person outside with cannabis in bags.

"This is another great example of the NPT acting on intelligence received from the public which has led to us detecting this offence. We encourage people to continue reporting suspicious activity on our non-emergency number, 101."

A 16-year-old Vietnamese man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
