UK: Two arrested in second Maidstone cannabis raid this week

Police have arrested two people on suspicion of cultivating cannabis in the second raid in Maidstone this week.

The arrests were made this morning after the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate executed a warrant at an address in Lombardy Drive, Vinters Park.

Officers seized approximately 300 plants and arrested a 46-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man – both from Maidstone – on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.

The woman has been released on bail until July 10 and the man remains in police custody.

The factory is the second to be shut down by Kent Police in the space of 24 hours, after a similar sized cultivation was raided in Well Road, Maidstone, yesterday.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Nicoll from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said: "This is another important discovery and it means that another 300 cannabis plants will be destroyed.

"Anyone who sets up a cannabis farm, whether in residential or commercial premises, is taking a big risk as we have a good record of closing the farms down, destroying the crops and putting those we believe to be involved before the courts."
