Re: "Better ideas on how to deal with marijuana," the Now letters, May 8.

Mr. Brian Marlatt must be living under a white rock if he thinks many people in Canada will smuggle cannabis to the USA when so much is now being produced in California.

We also already have the "prohibition-era gangsterism" he claims would be worsened by legalization, cartels in Mexico are murdering many people every year and the dope is still illegal there.

Marijuana is a plant with many uses but it seems conservatives simply hate it and anything to do with it. Just more freedom-denying baffle-gab from some prejudiced person. The only answer is to regulate it like alcohol and let people make their own informed decisions.
