UK: Street arrest for cannabis smoker
Spalding Guardian Wednesday 16 May 2012 Marie Stace, prosecuting, said the officer noticed a strong smell of cannabis in the air as Kandalski passed by and turned round to see he had a cigarette in his right hand. The officer showed Kandalski his warrant card, detained him and telephoned the police control room to summon other officers. Miss Stace said Kandalski was interviewed and admitted having a small amount of the drug. She told the court: "He said it was for his own personal use, it cost him £10 and he knew it was illegal in the UK." Kandalski (27), of Carrington Road, Spalding, was fined £360 when he pleaded guilty to possessing the class B controlled drug on April 22. Spalding magistrates on Thursday also ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge. Solicitor Rachel Stevens, mitigating, said Kandalski had "reviewed his lifestyle" and stopped taking cannabis. He lives with his partner, who is expecting their first child in four weeks' time, and that – coupled with his arrest – had made him stop using the drug. She said the offence was something he "very much regrets". Kandalski works in an abatoir. http://www.spaldingtoday.co.uk/news/crime-and-courts/street-arrest-for-cannabis-smoker-1-3840161
