Kenya: 'Blow to head' killed British aristocrat's son in Kenya police custody
Myfoxdfw.com Thursday 24 May 2012 Family and friends of Alexander Monson, 28, said the medical assessments show "compelling evidence of a violent assault" and allege he died after a "blunt force trauma" to his skull, The (London) Times reported. Evidence that Monson was possibly kicked in the scrotum and hand is also apparent in the reports, they claimed. "A postmortem was carried out on Tuesday. Two independent pathology reports were prepared, one on behalf of the Kenyan government and one on behalf of the family. Both reports conclude that the cause of Alexander's death was 'blunt force trauma' -- which means a blow to the head," the deceased's father, Lord Monson of Burton said. Monson was originally arrested in the early hours of Saturday over accusations he smoked a strong local cannabis variant while out with friends in Diani, near to Mombasa in the African nation's southeast. Details of Monson's demise while in custody at the Diani Police Station have been revealed by friends who said he was initially in "good spirits" around two hours after his arrest, but after another six hours was seen "lying behind the counter with his head propped up." A family friend, who visited the police station in an attempt to post bail, said he appeared to be frothing at the mouth and fitting and was taken to a Mombasa hospital under police guard where he was handcuffed to the bed. Friends said Temazepam, the prescription insomnia medication, was found in Monson's possession by police. Local authorities said Monson fell ill during an interrogation and later died after being taken to the hospital. Previously a family spokesman responded to Monson's death saying, "Alexander had previously enjoyed robust good health which makes this all the more shocking." They originally thought his cause of death may have been heart or respiratory-related. The British government is pressing for an "urgent and full" investigation, a Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said. Monson, who went to school at Marlborough College at the same time as Pippa Middleton, had lived and worked in Kenya for two years, in the meat processing and bamboo cultivation industries. His mother, Hilary, 57, who was Lord Monson's first wife, runs a holiday accommodation business in Diani. http://www.myfoxdfw.com/story/18621104/blow-to-head-killed-british-aristocrats-son-in-kenya-police-custody
