New Zealand: Cannabis for my pain, man claims
Wanganui Chrinicle Thursday 24 May 2012 Norman George Ebbutt, 49, pleaded guilty to possession of class B (cannabis oil) for supply, possession of cannabis plant for supply and producing cannabis oil. He was convicted and sentenced to 10 months' home detention with six months' standard post-detention conditions, when he appeared in the Wanganui District Court. A search on December 13, 2011, of Ebbutt's former partner's home found cannabis and cannabis oil items, including 14 cannabis tinnies, worth about $20 each, 24 cannabis oil capsules, worth $25-$40, 17 film canisters of cannabis oil, isopropyl alcohol and other drug paraphernalia. At the back of the property 10 cannabis seedlings were growing. Crown solicitor Jo Woodcock did not make any oral submissions to add to her written submissions, but defence counsel Mark Bullock said Ebbutt's pre-sentence report was a good one and recommended home detention. Judge David Cameron said Ebbutt had a criminal history spanning 1981-2008 and had previously been to jail but he had no convictions for drug offences. He had suffered serious injuries in two separate motor vehicle accidents and had a permanent disability, for which he received the invalid's benefit. His offending took place in the basement of his former partner's rental property, which was also occupied by a child. He said the drugs were mainly for him to control the pain from his injuries. http://www.wanganuichronicle.co.nz/news/cannabis-for-my-pain-man-claims/1393475/
