UK: Cannabis man avoids jail term
Leicester Mercury Monday 28 May 2012 Andrew Goosey (56) was stopped by police and found to be carrying two bags of cannabis totalling 82 grams with a street value of £690. Nine £10 wraps of the drug were also found at his home. Goosey, of Schoolgate, Southfields, Leicester, admitted possessing the class B drug with intent to supply it on May 19 last year. He was given a nine-month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work. Alan Murphy, prosecuting, told Leicester Crown Court that officers saw Goosey approach a car near his home in Stonesby Avenue. The defendant leant into the car then walked off, before being stopped and searched. In mitigation the court heard he was suffering from depression. His family were in the public gallery to support him and he was motivated to make significant changes to his life and seek employment. Judge Mark Rogers said: "I think you deserve a custodial sentence but I'm prepared to give you a chance." http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/Cannabis-man-avoids-jail-term/story-16208708-detail/story.html
