Coventry Observer Monday 28 May 2012 Malik Sowe told officers he had agreed to sell the drugs to help pay for a trip to Gambia to visit his mother. And at Warwick Crown Court last week the 30-year-old of Torcross Avenue in Coventry pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with intent to supply it. But it was accepted he was planning to sell it on in bulk rather than as street deals. Sowe, who had no previous convictions, was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months and was ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work. Judge Michael Cullum told him: "I accept you were not going to supply it on the street, but that is a considerable amount of cannabis. "You were someone who was going to work for profit. I do not find you were naïve; but you were stupid in getting involved." The court was told on February 9 the attention of police officers in a marked patrol car on the M6 was drawn to a Ford Focus travelling south between junctions six and five. When they stopped it Sowe was in the passenger seat with a laptop computer bag in the foot well and in it they found two sealed blocks of solid cannabis, weighing just over 1.8 kilos. Sold as they were they would have been worth around £3,000 or an estimated £9,095 when divided into £10 street deals. He told the police a man he said he had known for four years had offered him some cheap weed to sell for him at a small profit, which he agreed to do so because he wanted to visit his mother in Gambia but could not afford to go because he was out of work at the time. So he collected the cannabis from the man in Dudley and asked a friend to give him a lift to Kettering, saying he wanted to visit his nine-year-old daughter there. But in fact the purpose of the trip was to sell the cannabis, for which he expected to get about £1,900. Talbir Singh, defending, said: "He is a man of good character who was involved in what was a one-off decision."
