Police say a big cannabis supply chain bust in Wellington has shown how diverse New Zealand's drug culture can be.

Six search warrants were executed last night, with five people being arrested.

Detective Inspector Darrin Thomson says they ranged in age from in their 20's to in their 60's.

He says that's proved to be a lesson to police involved.

"The drug activity goes across a number of classes, a number of ages and we certainly have to mindful that it's not restricted to one group."

Mr Thomson says he hopes it sends a strong message to those involved in the illegal drug scene.
