US: Law legalizing pot could be headed for the ballot
Fox 12 Oregon Friday 06 Jul 2012 You might be voting on whether or not to legalize marijuana this November. Supporters of the Oregon Cannabis Tax Act gathered in Salem today to turn in signatures to get the bill on the ballot. The law would allow Oregon farmers to grow hemp for use in food, bio fuel, medicine and as a source of sustainable fiber. It would also regulate cannabis use for people over the age of 21. Proponents say it would create thousands of living wage jobs in Oregon, ranging from agriculture to manufacturing and engineering. Opponents of the law say it would cost taxpayers more money in new police training and are concerned that teens will have easier access to the drug. Petitioners gathered 160,000 signatures, twice as many as the number needed to get on the ballot. The state has 30 days to validate the signatures. http://www.kptv.com/story/18969712/law-legalizing-pot-could-be-headed-for-the-ballot
