UK: Restaurateur jailed for growing cannabis Miranda Robertson Salisbury Journal Thursday 12 Jul 2012 Arben Dragusha, 38, who is the licensee at Al Trullo in Christchurch Road, was arrested last June after police called to his property on an unrelated matter discovered 52 young cannabis plants growing under hydroponic equipment in the living room of the top floor flat, which was being rented out to two Albanian men. Police at the scene called for back-up and 16 officers descended on the Italian restaurant, discovering a cable running from the flat down into the restaurant’s electric meter, which had been bypassed. Police estimate Dragusha had "diverted" about £10,000-worth of electricity over a few years. Dragusha, his wife and their two tenants were all arrested and questioned. Dragusha, who had been a respected businessman in the town, denied the charges, blaming his tenants, who had been deported after the raid. But a jury at Winchester Crown Court found him guilty. Last week at Salisbury Crown Court Recorder Peter Fraser sentenced Dragusha to three years and ten months for the cannabis production charge, with no separate penalty for diverting electricity. He also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the plants and growing equipment. There was no order for costs. Officer in the case DC Marie Greer said: "It's nice to get a result from the courts that shows the community these sorts of offences won't be tolerated." http://www.salisburyjournal.co.uk/news/newforest/news/9808517.Restaurateur_jailed_for_growing_cannabis/
