UK: Bedroom cannabis grower avoids prison as judge hears of new baby
Lancashire Evening News Saturday 14 Jul 2012 Father-of-three Barry Lee, of Silverdale Drive, Ribbleton, Preston, pleaded guilty to producing a class B drug. Police found 68 plants worth between £6,000 and £9,000 when they searched the house on September 5 last year. When arrested the 35-year-old had £600 cash on him which was forfeited by Preston Crown Court. Recorder Smith said: "It's a serious offence particularly when the production is linked to supply." Prosecuting, Sarah Griffin said: "The room was adapted. The windows were covered, there was reflective insulation board. "High powered units and fans, transformers and switches were found. A heavy duty air filter system had been installed. "The operation has been described as low key but sophisticated and organised." Defending Jon Close said Lee had suffered a cannabis addiction from the age of 11 which had affected his life and his schooling. He said: "He has a new baby. The pregnancy was uncomplicated but afterwards his partner suffered heart difficulties and is under the care of the cardiac unit. "That means effectively he has become the main carer for his baby until she is recovered." Lee will complete a drug rehabilitation order. His 12 month sentence was suspended for two years. http://www.lep.co.uk/news/local/bedroom-cannabis-grower-avoids-prison-as-judge-hears-of-new-baby-1-4739811
