UK: Cannabis user sent to prison

The Sentinel

Friday 13 Jul 2012

CANNABIS user David Kesic has been jailed for eight weeks after he breached a suspended sentence order.

The 23-year-old received a four-month sentence, suspended for two years, with supervision and a drug rehabilitation requirement last August after admitting possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

But Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court yesterday heard he has failed to comply with the requirements of the order and has failed to provide any negative samples.

Kevin Mortlock, mitigating, said Kesic, of Allendale Road, Blurton, has been addicted to cannabis since he was 13.

Judge Paul Glenn implemented the suspended sentence but reduced the term from 16 weeks to eight weeks.

He told Kesic: "You have not complied with this order because you cannot cope without cannabis."

Kesic will serve up to half the term.
