UK: Pupils excluded over drugs use

Harborough Mail

Thursday 19 Jul 2012

TWELVE pupils were excluded from Kibworth High School over drugs.

Police say officers found about £60-worth of cannabis during a search at the school last term.

Insp Paul McKinder, head of Harborough police, said three pupils were given a police reprimand, while another two were given final warnings in what he described as an 'isolated incident'.

A letter sent to parents last Thursday, signed by head teacher Angela Edwards, said 12 pupils had been excluded 'for issues relating to drugs'.

No-one was available for comment at the school this week, but the letter, seen by the Mail, states: "We take our duty of care at this school extremely seriously.

"We will not tolerate drugs in our school. While it is regrettable that so many pupils had to be excluded, we feel that this clear and unequivocal message needed sending to the whole community."
