UK: Man grew cannabis plants in loft space

Bradford Telegraph and Argus

Tuesday 24 Jul 2012

A 31-year-old man who grew cannabis plants in his loft using a DVD bought from a car boot sale will be sentenced at Bradford Crown Court next month.

Aidan Swift bought plants for £10 each and all the equipment needed to grow them to maturity on internet auction site eBay, Skipton magistrates were told.

When police executed a warrant on April 14 at his home in Bennett Street, Skipton, they found 20 adult plants in his roof space.

The plants, which had flowers, were being grown with the help of lamps, an extractor fan and water trays.

Swift, who admitted cultivating a Class B controlled drug, was growing the plants for his own use, the court was told.

In mitigation, Jane Nield said it had not been a sophisticated operation and Swift's intention was to save money.

Magistrates adjourned sentencing to Bradford Crown Court on August 21.
