Gibraltar: RGP and GDP seize 1.5 tons of cannabis resin in joint operation

Two Spanish nationals appeared in the Gibraltar Magistrates court yesterday charged in connection with a drugs seizure just off the Detached Mole in BGTW on Friday night. Bail was not sought for either men, and they remain in custody until July 31.

Juan Gabriel Garcia Aguera, 30, and Juan Jesus Martin Ros, 40, have been jointly charged with the following offences in relation to a controlled drug, namely Cannabis Resin weighing approximately 1.5 tons: one count of Possession, one count of Possession with Intent to Supply and one count of Importing.

A coordinated police operation between marine section officers of the RGP and the GDP, led to the two Spanish nationals being arrested for being in possession of approximately 1.5 tonnes of cannabis resin. The drugs were found in an open vessel with a 200hp engine.

A Police spokesman confirmed that the drugs have a street value of £7.5m.
