Tuesday 24 Jul 2012

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nasaraawa State Command, has arrested a farmer, Mr. William Tachia, for cultivating Indian hemp.

William, who hails from Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, is now cooling his feet in the agency's custody in Lafia after a crack team of NDLEA officials swooped on Tachia's one-acre cannabis farm penultimate Tuesday following a tip-off.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the clever farmer had grown maize around the length and breadth of the illicit crop, a perimeter fence of sorts, ostensibly to deceive the prying eyes of the law, but that has proved not to be clever enough.

Our correspondent further gathered that another half acre cannabis farm was uncovered at the outskirts of Keffi town, also in Nasarawa State, which was destroyed alongside that of Tachia with the owner said to have fled and still at large.
