UK: Cannabis user 'had medicinal reasons'
Worcester News Wednesday 01 Aug 2012 Police entered Richard Dowie’s home in Glenthorne Avenue, Brickfields, Worcester, on Wednesday, July 18, to execute a drugs warrant. Matt Dodson, prosecuting, said officers found two large plants growing outside and five in the attic. Dowie, aged 34, admitted producing a class B drug when he appeared before Worcester magistrates. In interview, Dowie said the two plants found outside were being looked after for a friend while the five plants in the attic were split into two varieties and he had grown them from seeds. "He said once harvested, the leaves and buds would last him three months or so, which would cost him about £240 a week," said Mr Dodson. "He has had this habit for a number of years. He has been suffering insomnia and pain in his leg. He never intended to sell or supply them." Richard Hull, defending, said Dowie had been fully co-operative with police and told officers how many plants they would find. He said: "He suffered a leg injury and that's why, in part, he smokes the cannabis." Dowie was fined £110 and ordered to pay £85 costs as well as a £15 victim surcharge. http://www.worcesternews.co.uk/news/9849701.Cannabis_user__had_medicinal_reasons_/
