US: Pot ticketing law takes effect Lollapalooza weekend

CHICAGO—

Coincidentally, the the new pot law that authorizes police to issue tickets for small amounts of marijuana goes into effect this Lollapalooza weekend.

But Chicago Police Department officials say the ticketing provision will not apply inside the three-day festival, which takes place on fenced-in grounds at Grant Park

Because the Lollapalooza is on park district property, police will continue to make arrests just like before the new law.

Starting Saturday, tickets can be issued to anyone in possession of 15 grams of cannabis or less.

Last year, police made no marijuana-related arrests inside the Lollapalooza gates.
