Craven Herald and Pioneer

Monday 06 Aug 2012

A Skipton man allowed his friends to smoke cannabis in his house to stop them indulging on the streets, a court heard.

David Pringle, 23, was found in possession of a small amount of cannabis in the street and a week later police found several people in his home smoking the drug.

Pringle was first stopped and searched by officers at 7.40pm on June 29 in Cawder Green who found a small bag of cannabis, Skipton magistrates heard on Friday.

On July 8, officers went to Pringle’s home at The Farm, Keighley Road, where they found a number of people in his front room smoking cannabis. They also found a cannabis grinder and a home made bong, used to smoke the drug, the court heard.

Pringle admitted two counts of being in possession of a class B controlled drug and one count of permitting his home to be used for the smoking of the drug.

The court heard Pringle smoked cannabis to cope with memories of an unhappy childhood and that he allowed his friends to use his home to avoid them smoking on the streets.

He was fined £50 for each of the two possession charges and ordered to pay £85 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
