Wales: Fined for possession of cannabis

Carmarthen Journal

Wednesday 15 Aug 2012

A MAN who was caught with traces of cannabis has been fined.

Carl Allen Davies, 28, of Maes yr Ysgol, Carmarthen, pleaded guilty to the charge at Carmarthen Magistrates' Court.

Ellie Morgan, prosecuting, said police were patrolling the area on Sunday, July 15, and could smell a strong smell of cannabis coming from the defendant's address. "As a result, officers went to speak to the defendant and he was arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis," she said.

Officers carried out a search of the flat and found a grinder with traces of the drug and a bag with a small amount of herbal cannabis.

In interview, Davies said he intended to smoke it, even though he knew it was illegal to possess the drug.

Ms Morgan asked for the destruction of the cannabis and the grinder.

David Williams, mitigating, said his client was alone at the time and the amount of the drug he had was very small.

Magistrates fined Davies £75 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
