Indonesia: Police nab 1.7 tons of cannabis

Lampung Police have detained two people and confiscated a truck carrying 1.7 tons of cannabis hidden under piles of avocados.

Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Sulistyaningsih confirmed that local police officers had stopped the truck in the compound of Bakauheni Seaport and detained the men.

"We stopped a truck and after checking its load, we found cannabis and avocados inside, she added.

According to Sulistyaningsih, the local crime division is questioning the truck driver and companion as part of the investigation.

Antara news agency reported that Lampung Police earlier destroyed various types of illegal drugs it confiscated on several raids in the past 10 months. In April, the police had destroyed more than 3.7 tons of cannabis.
