UK: Birmingham man grew cannabis because he couldn't afford to buy it Ron Warrilow Birmingham Mail Thursday 23 Aug 2012 Ross Gould was spotted loading hydroponic equipment into a car by police. When officers checked, they discovered that the vehicle was registered to a woman. They followed Gould to his home in Chaucer Court, Halesowen. When asked where he had been, Gould did not tell them he had been to purchase the equipment, said prosecutor Oliver Woolhouse at Wolverhampton Crown Court. He was then told them he had been seen loading the hydroponic gear into the car. He immediately admitted he had been growing cannabis in his flat. The officers discovered 34 plants inside a bedroom – 17 maturing plants and 17 seedlings – together with around five ounces of dried cannabis in a glass jar. Gould said he had been growing the cannabis for seven to eight weeks. He stressed that it was purely for personal use. Gould admitted producing cannabis and possessing the controlled drug and was placed under supervision for a year with a condition he attends a drug rehabilitation programme for six months. Judge John Maxwell further ordered Gould to carry out 150 hours' unpaid work in the community.
