UK: Police praise public after two successful cannabis raids

Croydon Advertiser

Thursday 30 Aug 2012

TWO cannabis factories were discovered in the borough on Wednesday.

The Addiscombe and Ashburton Safer Neighbourhoods Teams (SNTs) jointly carried out two raids on Wednesday morning to search for the illegal drugs.

The first raid, in Brampton Road, uncovered more than 100 cannabis plants inside the house.

A 54 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis.

In the second raid, 30 cannabis plants were discovered at an address in Shirley Road. A 49- year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.

Both raids were able to take place thanks to local communities informing police officers that the drugs were being grown at the addresses.

Both men have since been bailed until October.

Sergeant Scott Smith, from the Addiscombe Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: "We've been able to act on intelligence received from the local community and uncover two cannabis factories in the area.

"It really is important that local people keep on telling us if there is suspicious activity going on in their neighbourhood, either direct to police or anonymously through Crimestoppers.

"We can then act on that information and put a stop to criminal activity, like we have done here, to make their neighbourhood a safer place."
