Australia: Heavy pot user fails to win job back Vanda Carson Courier Mail Thursday 30 Aug 2012 Peter James, 57, asked for his job back but was rejected because a tribunal found he still does not understand the seriousness of his breach of the RailCorp drug and alcohol policy. Mr James believed the strict no drugs policy just meant he should not be stoned while at work. He was sacked on April 4 after he failed the random urine test on June 15 last year. The test, taken at CountryLink Call Centre at Newcastle, showed Mr James had levels of cannabis metabolite more than 21 times higher than the accepted level. Mr James worked for RailCorp for four years, having worked at Telstra for 27 years. He applied to be reinstated to his job as a reservation sales agent by appealing to the Transport Appeals Board. Mr James, who was a part-time worker, admitted he had been a heavy cannabis smoker for 36 years since he was 20. He told investigators he stopped smoking marijuana for "a month or two" before he started his job with RailCorp so he would pass the drug test. But shortly after he was hired he began smoking again. Mr James said he had smoked cannabis "most weekends since the age of 20" and had about "six joints over the weekend" sometimes more when he was having personal problems. When his father passed away in 2008, he smoked one or two joints every night for several months. http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/national/heavy-pot-user-fails-to-win-job-back/story-fndo1uez-1226462580025
