82 tons of marihuana confiscated in Armenia

YEREVAN. - For preventing illegal drug circulation, on Aug 7-30 "Cannabis-poppy-2012" operative preventive program was held throughout the country which aimed at detecting and eliminating cannabis and marihuana.

To ensure the program's efficiency, headquarters were set up within Yerevan police and regional departments, headed by chiefs of the departments. Officers of the main department on combat against organized crime of the police were responsible for operative group.

82 tones and 666.6 kg of cannabis and 39 kg green masses of poppy were detected and destroyed. Besides police officers, representatives of Defense Ministry subdivisions, local authorities and media also had active participation in the event.

According to obtained information, during the joint actions of Main Department on Combat Against Organized Crime of the Police, regional departments and their subordinate divisions, 810 kg green masses of poppy were detected and confiscated from the private lands of 86 residents.

54 cases of illegal circulation of drugs and psychotropic substances were found, resulting confiscation of 265.8 ml of dezomorfin, 2 kg 768 grams of marijuana, 740 grams of hashish, 1.1 grams of heroin, 2.3 grams of codeine, 10 pieces of subutex drugs, 14 pieces and 15 ml psychotropic tablets, 1 cold weapon, 1 air gun, 3 grenades, 556 bullets.

A person under investigation was found.

Due to explanatory works of police officers, 6 hunting rifles and 72 bullets were voluntarily handed in to police.
