UK: Drug user jailed over two cannabis farms

Shields Gaxette

Thursday 13 Sep 2012

A DRUG user has been jailed for two years for being involved in two separate cannabis farms.

Craig Seales, 26, was arrested with Lee Jackson and Anthony Heslop after a cannabis crop with a potential street value of more than £5,000 was found during a police raid at a flat in Vernon Close, South Shields, in February last year.

Newcastle Crown Court heard that Seales was caught growing more of the Class B drug at his home in Rembrandt Avenue, South Shields, while on bail.

The operation in the Vernon Close flat rented by Jackson, was to supply the three men and a small number of others, on a non-profit basis, while the second crop was for Seales' own use.

Judge Penny Moreland told Seales, who admitted producing drugs and an unrelated burglary charge, that his position was "aggravated by the fact that you were on bail when you committed the latest offence".

Heslop, 24, of Horton Avenue, South Shields, admitted producing cannabis, and a separate charge of possessing counterfeit currency and was sentenced to 12 month' jail suspended for two years, with supervision and 200 hours' unpaid work.

Jackson, 24, of Sutton Way, South Shields, who admitted producing cannabis, was also sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment suspended for two years, with supervision and 200 hours' unpaid work.
