UK: Coventry school expels pupils for cannabis use

BBC News Coventry and Warwickshire

Wednesday 19 Sep 2012

Two students have been expelled from an independent school in Coventry for drug-taking.

King Henry VIII School said the boys were expelled after a "thorough investigation into a recent incident involving cannabis".

Two other boys and a girl have also been suspended, and West Midlands Police are investigating.

Headteacher Jason Slack said: "The decision to invoke these disciplinary measures was not taken lightly."

He added: "King Henry VIII School is committed to providing a drug-free environment and takes very seriously anything that compromises this commitment."

A police officer, PC Peter Ormond, said: "There will be no criminal action against any of the children involved. We are talking about very small amounts of cannabis and they have made full and frank admissions."

West Midlands Police said they would be visiting each family to explain the offences committed and highlight the potential punishments the pupils could have faced.
