UK: Man said he used cannabis as a painkiller
Tamworth Herald Friday 21 Sep 2012 A MAN who used cannabis as a painkiller has been given a conditional discharge by a magistrates' court. Mark Byrne of Coronation Avenue, Polesworth appeared before Nuneaton magistrates on Tuesday (September 18) and admitted possessing the controlled Class B drug, contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, at Atherstone on August 3. Prosecutor Colin Heald said Byrne had five bags of cannabis, worth about £400 in his car when he was stopped by police. "He broke his back about two years ago and said he had been using it [cannabis] for about 15 months as a painkiller." Forty-eight-year-old Byrne told the court he had not worked since 2010 following an accident. He was sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge and told to pay £85 prosecution costs. Magistrates ordered forfeiture and destruction of the cannabis. http://www.thisistamworth.co.uk/Man-said-used-cannabis-painkiller/story-16956386-detail/story.html
