Zambia: Masasa village headman jailed for trafficking in cannabis Nkweto Mfula Zambia Daily Mail Saturday 29 Sep 2012 This is in a case in which Lawrence Yungona was jointly charged with his wife, Elesiya Wawila, 52, and Godfrey Lesho of Lufushi farm block in Lufwanyama for two counts of drug trafficking. Chingola resident magistrate Siloka Sililo on Wednesday jailed Yungona but acquitted Wawila and Lesho. Passing the sentence, Mr Sililo said he had considered what Yungona said in mitigation and the fact that he was the first offender who deserved leniency. Mr Sililo slapped the two-year-six months jail sentence on Yungona after convicting him. On the first count, particulars of the offence were that Yungona, Wawila and Lesho on June 13 this year in Lufwanyama, jointly and whilst acting together, did traffic in marijuana , a product of cannabis sativa , contrary to Section 6 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act Chapter 96 of the Laws of Zambia. On the second count, it was alleged that Yungona and Wawila on June 13 this year in Lufwanyama, jointly and whilst acting together, did traffic in 11.5 kilogrammes of marijuana worth K11.5 million. And in mitigation, Yungona said he was a breadwinner of the family as he looked after orphans who are also school-going children.
