UK: Jail for man who grew cannabis at home for second time
Tamworth Herald Friday 19 Oct 2012 A TAMWORTH man caught growing cannabis in his house for the second time in a year was finally jailed by a judge. In May Christopher Hodge was let off with a community order by a judge at Stafford Crown Court after police found a total of 28 plants and £500 worth of harvested cannabis. On August 3 officers executed another search warrant at the defendant's address and discovered 14 seedlings and two matured cropped cannabis plants in his bedroom, said Mr Pat Sullivan, prosecuting. Hodge, of Medway, Belgrave, who admitted a charge of producing cannabis, was back in the dock at Stafford Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday) and this time was jailed for a total of seven months – four months for the current offence and a further three months for breaching the community order. Judge Michael Cullum told the 27-year-old: "You have pleaded guilty to producing cannabis for the second time this year. Your response to the community order was to do exactly the same again. A hydroponic set-up doesn't appear overnight – this was a determined effort." Mr Sullivan said Hodge accepted cultivating the drug solely for his own use. He told officers he had a heavy cannabis habit and the crop from the plants would only last him about six weeks. Mr Tim Pole, defending, said Hodge was simply growing cannabis because of his addiction. "This was not a particularly successful or sophisticated operation. "This latest escapade, although very ill-advised has had an impact on him. He is now clean of cannabis and he is effectively a new person making progress." http://www.thisistamworth.co.uk/Jail-man-grew-cannabis-home-second-time/story-17124908-detail/story.html
