New Zealand: Regional cannabis promotion not on - Mayor

Radio New Zealand

Wednesday 14 Nov 2012

Far North Mayor Wayne Brown has scoffed at a suggestion the region should promote itself as the cannabis capital of New Zealand as a way of boosting tourism.

NORML, a cannabis law reform group, says now that the American states of Washington and Colorado have legalised marijuana possession, this country should trial more relaxed drug laws and Northland is the obvious place to do it.

Mr Brown says Northland, unlike Amsterdam, has many other ways of attracting tourists.
