KATHMANDU: Former crown prince Paras Shah has been granted bail today, Thai Police told on Friday.

Paras was jailed on October 23, on the charge of cannabis possession on the Thai resort island of Phuket.

Phuket is an island off the south-west coast of Thailand in Asia.

Police found roughly three grams (0.1 ounces) of marijuana, Police Colonel Jirasak Siemsak told from Phuket.

Thai Court had summoned him once every two weeks since then.

It is said that he had deposited 10,000 Thai baht to get out of the jail.

Paras Shah had spent a night in Phuket Jail of Thailand a month ago.

The ousted crown prince who is detested by general public for his Corinthian lifestyle, was held along with a Thai woman in the last week of October after the management unit of his condo complained about his rowdy behaviour.

"We didn't know who he was when he was first arrested because he had a normal passport, nothing identifying him as a VIP,” Siemsak told from Phuket.

Shah, after he was granted bail, however denied the charge.

According to Thai Police, if convicted he faces a light sentence because marijuana possession for personal use is not considered a serious offence in Thailand.

On October 27, Thai police had informed Nepalese embassy in Bangkok about his arrest, but Thai Embassy in Nepal and Nepal Embassy to Thailand are still mum over this matter.

Albeit ex-King Gyanendra Shah was also informed about his son’s arrest, the former had left for Butwal on November 5 to inaugurate the newly constructed building of Gorkhanath Temple.

“If he confesses, he may get a suspended sentence,” Jirasak said, adding that police were awaiting the results of a drug test but expected to pass the case on to prosecutors soon.

It has been also revealed that Pasar has purchased an apartment in Phuket and is living with his Thai girl friend in Bangkok.

Earlier in 2010, Paras Shah was booked by the Chitwan police for an attempt to murder.

He had opened fire at the Tiger Tops Resort in the Chitwan National Park after an altercation with the then Deputy Prime Minister Sujata’s son-in-law.

Paras Shah had became heir to the throne in 2001 after his cousin, former crown prince Dipendra had murdered nine members of the then Royal family including king Birandra Nikram Sahan and queen Aishwarya ahead of killing himself.

Nepal, however abolished its monarchy in 2008 following the 12-point understanding reached between then seven-party alliance and the then Maoist insurgents.
