Finland: Medicinal cannabis product licensed for sale.

YLE

Friday 23 Nov 2012

A medicinal marijuana product has been licensed for use in Finland. The country’s Medicine’s Agency Fimea has licenced a cannabis-based mouth spray called Sativex.

The medicine, which is used to treat MS patients suffering from muscle stiffness or spasms, will be on sale in around six months’ time. It is made from hemp, and is intended to help MS patients that did not find relief from other medications.

It has previously been available with special dispensation, but fewer than ten patients per year applied to use it. Patients looking to use it will need a prescription from a neurological specialist, or a doctor working at a hospital’s neurological unit.
