THE 29-year-old star was given a suspended 12-month jail sentence but has been warned he'll be locked up if he commits another offence.

FORMER Shameless star Jody Latham wept yesterday as he escaped a prison sentence for growing cannabis.

The actor was given a 12-month jail sentence but it was suspended for two years.

Latham, 29, who admitted the offence, was also ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid community work.

Judge Beverley Lunt warned him he’d end up behind bars if he committed another offence, adding: “I hope this will make you give up this drug.”

Burnley Crown Court heard Latham, who played Philip “Lip” Gallagher in the Channel 4 series, had been smoking cannabis “on and off” since he was 16.

Police seized 24 plants at the home of his ex-girlfriend Sarah Melia, 31, in Bacup, Lancashire, in May last year. The cannabis had a street value of £9000.

Melia was given a 12-month community order after she admitted permitting the drug to be produced.

Latham, who recently dated X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos, has a number of previous convictions, including two cautions for offences involving cannabis.
