Cannabis used in pain tests

The Oxford Times

Saturday 22 Dec 2012

The ability of cannabis to relieve pain differs greatly between people, Oxford University research suggests.

Researchers gave a pill including a cannabis compound and then applied a cream to their skin which causes a burning feeling.

The 12 participants then underwent an MRI scan to see how they responded.

Lead researcher Dr Michael Lee said: “Cannabis does not seem to act like conventional pain medicine. Some people respond really well, others not at all, or even poorly.”
