Burundi police destroy cannabis plantation in Bubanza province
Coast Week Friday 28 Dec 2012 BUJUMBURA (Xinhua) -- Police in Burundi’s western province of Bubanza early Monday destroyed a plantation of cannabis at Rugunga, some 5 km north of Bubanza chief town, the Burundi National Radio reported Monday. According to the radio, the plantation was hidden inside the compound of Therence Ndacayisaba – a man suspected for a long time by the local administration of growing cannabis. Police agents received reports that a cannabis plantation was hidden in a compound and deployed to Rugunga where they uprooted 400 plants of cannabis early at 7:45 a.m., said the media. The owner of the compound tried to escape, but police agents arrested him. Last week on Saturday, the traffic police agents intercepted a taxi loaded with 25 kilograms of cannabis at Gihanga in the same province of Bubanza. The taxi was coming from Bubanza’s neighboring province of Cibitoke bordering with the Democratic Republic of Congo. The taxi driver was arrested and jailed at Gihanga custody and police started their investigations. http://www.coastweek.com/xin_281212_03.htm
