UK: Portmead man grew cannabis because "he did not want to associate with drug dealers"

South Wales Evening Post

Saturday 29 Dec 2012

A 46-YEAR-OLD Swansea man grew cannabis in a cupboard because he did not want to mix with drug dealers.

When police called at Neil Thomas's house in Paviland Place, Portmead, on December 7 on an unrelated matter he was reluctant to let them search his home, a court has heard.

Officers later found a foiled-lined cupboard fitted with lights in which was growing four cannabis plants.

Thomas pleaded guilty to cultivating the Class B drug.

In police interview he said he turned to cultivation because "he did not want to associate with drug dealers".

The court was told the cannabis had been found 14 days before the end of a suspended sentence he had been given at Swansea Crown Court for similar offences, and Thomas was committed to the higher court for sentencing for the breach on February 11.
