Malaysia: Cousins get death for trafficking EMBUN MAJID Malaysian Star Wednesday 09 Jan 2013 Fishermen Abdul Aziz Yatim, 42, from Langkawi, and Abdun Hamid Masman, 44, from Satun in Thailand, were calm as Judicial Commissioner Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab pronounced the death sentence. Their family members, who packed the courtroom, also appeared calm. The two were on trial for trafficking in 9,589gm of cannabis on an unnumbered boat about 0.2 nautical miles off Kuala Jerlun in the Kubang Pasu district at 12.20pm on Jan 9, 2012. Mohd Zaki found that the cousins had failed to cast reasonable doubt in the case against them. He found that the accused, in their defence given from the witness stand, had failed to raise doubt that they knew about the presence of the drugs on the boat. He said the two claimed in the defence that the small wooden boat they were in was rented to them by a man named Rawi and that they were about to draw a fishing net when the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency team arrested them. Mohd Zaki said that although the man named Rawi exists, the court could not accept the duo’s defence which it found to be fictional. Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Nor Hasnita Wan Daud prosecuted the case while the cousins were represented by Rahmatullah Baharudin. http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2013/1/9/courts/12549072&sec=courts
