Ireland: Cops bust pot farms at a rate of one a day Stephen Breen The Irish Sun Monday 14 Jan 2013 A special investigation into the multi-million-euro industry shows how cops raided 500 cannabis grow houses here last year. New figures show that almost 60,000 cannabis plants — worth a staggering €44million — were seized by Gardai under Operation Nitrogen. And 500 people were charged with growing the mind-bending weed over the past 12 months. One homegrown cannabis plant is valued at about €800, with green-fingered thugs selling one gramme of grass on the street for €20. And with each plant containing 40 grammes of hash, vicious Asian crime gangs are coining it in. By growing 1,000 plants over a two-month period the hoods rake in a staggering €800,000.
