Singapore: Undertaker jailed 3 years for having cannabis

SINGAPORE - An undertaker was jailed three years yesterday for the possession of cannabis.

Kalaivannan Nagamuthu, 45, pleaded guilty to two charges. Another two charges for possessing cannabis mixture were taken into consideration.

On May 14, 2011, Central Narcotics Bureau officers arrested him at the loading bay carpark in front of Block 255, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4.

In his home, officers found one block and one packet containing 161.71g of cannabis. Another 36.45g of cannabis, packed in two blocks and a packet, were found in his company van.

He has a prior conviction for drug possession in 1993. He was fined $2,000, but served two months in jail in default.

He could have been jailed up to 10 years and/or fined up to $20,000 for each charge.
