North Carolina (NC) lawmakers are being urged by 21-year-old Chris Westmoreland to pass a legislation that makes medicinal marijuana legal. The report has found that Westmoreland is a patient of a rare cancerous tumor and hopes that marijuana's medical benefits would do wonders in improving his deadly condition.

Not only patients like him, but those suffering from arthritis and hypertension-like debilitating medical conditions would also be prescribed marijuana if the bill is passed.

Westmoreland is living with chronic pain. He is paralyzed from the waist down. His tumour causes him to suffer neurological pain, which has failed all pain killers, including Ibuprofen and Oxycontin. Six different chemotherapy drugs had also failed to treat him.

It is the belief that the bill would help such patients in recovering by allowing medicinal marijuana-use. The North Carolina Medical Cannabis Act was last week co-sponsored by Pricey Harrison, Guilford County State Representative.

A distribution and supply system is also framed by the bill, which the NC Department of Agriculture would manage. The system is being hoped to provide immunity to patients, doctors, suppliers and caregivers from criminal prosecution.

"My belief is that if you're suffering, you have every right to do everything that is within yourself a better person and to make you feel better", avowed Westmoreland.
