US: Alabama Lawmakers Introduce Recreational Cannabis Legislation
420 Times Monday 08 Apr 2013 If successful, House Bill 550, or the Alabama Cannabis and Hemp Reform Act of 2013, would legalize the possession of up to an ounce of dried flowers for individuals over 21 years of age and would also permit adults to cultivate up to 12 cannabis plants in the privacy of their own home. It may seem odd for a southern state such as Alabama to be lobbying for the reform of their current drug policy, especially when legislation to legalize the medicinal use of cannabis was unsuccessful back in February of this year, but southern state cannabis law reform has to start somewhere. We recently reported that the latest national survey conducted resulted in a majority of the United States agreeing that it’s time our country legalized the use of cannabis for adults similar to alcohol. It’s not a matter of “if” cannabis will be legalized, it’s merely a matter of “when” it will become legal all throughout the nation. Legislation that was introduced to the United States House of Representatives in February, which is intended to overturn the federal cannabis prohibition, has yet to receive a vote.
