Scotland: Woman had secret wardrobe door to cannabis loft in Aberdeenshire home

BBC News

Thursday 16 May 2013

A grandmother caught with cannabis plants in her loft - which was accessed by a secret doorway in her wardrobe - was growing it for a medical condition, a court has heard.

Police recovered 69 cannabis plants from the cottage of Catherine Cosgrove, 56, at Blairs in Aberdeenshire in October last year.

She admitted being involved in the production of an illegal drug.

Cosgrove was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work.

Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard the former carer was growing the plants as pain relief for osteoarthritis.

The court was told Cosgrove was growing a large quantity of cannabis plants to build up her stock of medication because she would soon be unable to access the loft because of her condition.
