US: Effort underway to legalize marijuana for medical use in Ohio

Jessica Wehrman

Dayton Daily News

Thursday 23 May 2013

Supporters of legalizing medical marijuana can now start collecting signatures to put the issue on the ballot in Ohio.

The Ohio Ballot Board voted 5 to 0 Thursday to allow the group to start collecting the more than 300,000 signatures from registered voters to put the issue on the ballot. It will likely not make the ballot in 2013 since the deadline for signatures is July 6.

If the Ohio Cannabis Rights Amendment makes the ballot, it is most likely to be in 2014 – when Ohioans will also be voting for governor and other statewide offices.
