Mozambique police seize 500kgs of cannabis

Star Africa

Tuesday 11 Jun 2013

Police in Mozambique have arrested a local man identified as Nelton Ricardo in the western province of Tete after he was allegedly caught in possession of 500 kg of cannabis, state run news agency AIM reported. The agency on Tuesday quoted the spokesperson of the general command of the police, Pedro Cossa, as saying that the cannabis was found inside Ricardo’s house and was for sale within Mozambique.

The spokesperson added, “many people have naively involved themselves in the consumption of cannabis without knowing the consequences”.

This is not the first arrest in connection with the possession of large quantities of cannabis this year.

In February police in Maxixe, in the southern province of Inhambane, seized a tonne of the illicit item.

The sale and usage of cannabis is rife in Mozambique where the item is illegal.
